Stats & Training
Defense and Sp. Atk carry most of Omastar's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 2 Defense EVs. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
OMASTAR uses its tentacles to capture its prey. It is believed to have become extinct because its shell grew too large and heavy, causing its movements to become too slow and ponderous.

Omastar Weakness
Omastar's Rock/Water typing leaves it vulnerable to Grass, Electric, Fighting, and Ground. Grass hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Omastar's physical bulk (base 125 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Grass |
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Fighting, Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Normal, Ice, Poison, Flying |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Fire |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
In Ruby & Sapphire, Magneton can KO Omastar with Thunderbolt (145-171%). Forretress's Earthquake hits Omastar for 39-46%. Heracross deals 57-67% with Megahorn.

How to Get Omastar in Ruby & Sapphire
Omastar can't be caught in Ruby & Sapphire. Transfer Omanyte from Red, Yellow, or Sword and evolve through the 2-stage line to get it. The step cards below map the full chain.
Omastar Guide
In Ruby & Sapphire, Swift Swim changes the entire equation for Omastar. The 495 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a hazard setter. Ice Beam with Leftovers is the standard set.
Swift Swim is what you want on Omastar. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Shell Armor, Weak Armor) work on paper but Swift Swim is what makes Omastar worth using.
At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Omastar is a mixed attacker with base 60 Attack and 115 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a hazard setter.
In Ruby & Sapphire, run Ice Beam, Raindance, Spikes, and Hydro Pump on Omastar. Ice Beam is the most common pick at 22% usage. This set covers the hazard setter role with a mix of damage and utility.
