Weighed down by a large and heavy shell, Omastar couldn’t move very fast. Some say it went extinct because it was unable to catch food.

Omastar Weakness

Omastar's Rock/Water typing leaves it vulnerable to Grass, Electric, Fighting, and Ground. Grass hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Omastar's physical bulk (base 125 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Sword & Shield Omastar Best Moveset

One guaranteed turn is all Omastar needs. Focus Sash buys it, max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs make it count, and Weakarmor adds something extra. The goal: deal early damage and deal damage with Scald. The remaining moves gives it play beyond just the lead turn.

Omastar Guide

  • In Sword & Shield, Swift Swim changes the entire equation for Omastar. The 495 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a hazard setter. Earthpower with Focus Sash is the standard set.

  • In Sword & Shield, watch for Exeggutor (Grass), Raikou (Electric), and Machamp (Fighting) when using Omastar. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Exeggutor is the most dangerous since Grass moves deal 4x damage. Ground-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Swift Swim is what you want on Omastar. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Shell Armor, Weak Armor) work on paper but Swift Swim is what makes Omastar worth using.

  • At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Omastar is a special attacker with base 115 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a hazard setter.

  • In Sword & Shield, run Earthpower, Shellsmash, Ice Beam, and Scald on Omastar. Earthpower is the most common pick at 23% usage. Scald provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

One of the original 151, Omastar has appeared in 19 games — most mainline games. From Red & Blue through the latest titles, it's rarely been left out of a regional Pokedex.
