Stats & Training
Defense and Sp. Atk carry most of Omastar's stat budget. Speed's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 2 Defense EVs. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Weighed down by a large and heavy shell, Omastar couldn’t move very fast. Some say it went extinct because it was unable to catch food.
Omastar’s sharp fangs could crush rock, but the Pokémon can attack only the prey that come within reach of its tentacles.
Omastar Weakness
Omastar's Rock/Water typing leaves it vulnerable to Grass, Electric, Fighting, and Ground. Grass hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Omastar's physical bulk (base 125 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Grass |
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Fighting, Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Normal, Ice, Poison, Flying |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Fire |
In Sword & Shield, Rillaboom threatens a KO with Wood Hammer (247-290%). Cobalion's Close Combat also KOs at 91-107%.

Sword & Shield Evolution
Evolved from Omanyte. Omastar is the final form in this two-stage line. Plenty of partners for breeding via two egg groups. Eggs are slow to hatch. HP grew the most through evolution (+35 over Omanyte), and Omastar peaks at 495 total stats. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Sword & Shield Omastar Best Moveset
One guaranteed turn is all Omastar needs. Focus Sash buys it, max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs make it count, and Weakarmor adds something extra. The goal: deal early damage and deal damage with Scald. The remaining moves gives it play beyond just the lead turn.

Omastar Guide
In Sword & Shield, Swift Swim changes the entire equation for Omastar. The 495 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a hazard setter. Earthpower with Focus Sash is the standard set.
Swift Swim is what you want on Omastar. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Shell Armor, Weak Armor) work on paper but Swift Swim is what makes Omastar worth using.
At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Omastar is a special attacker with base 115 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a hazard setter.
In Sword & Shield, run Earthpower, Shellsmash, Ice Beam, and Scald on Omastar. Earthpower is the most common pick at 23% usage. Scald provides reliable STAB damage.
