Stats & Training
Omanyte's spread favors balanced defenses over offense. Defense leads the defensive side, HP eats the cost. Yields 1 Defense stat exp per defeat. Medium-fast 1M XP curve to level.
Although long extinct, in rare cases, it can be genetically resurrected from fossils.

Omanyte Weakness
Type-wise, Omanyte takes extra damage from Grass, Electric, Fighting, and Ground. Watch out for Grass attacks, those deal 4x damage. It resists 5 types, giving it decent defensive coverage.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Grass |
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Fighting, Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Normal, Ice, Poison, Flying |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Fire |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

How to Get Omanyte in Red & Blue

Omanyte Guide
In Red & Blue, Omanyte isn't fully evolved, so it's not built for competitive play. You'll want to evolve it into Omastar to unlock its full potential. At 390 BST, it's a stepping stone rather than a team anchor.
In Red & Blue, Omanyte's biggest threats include Venusaur (Grass), Jolteon (Electric), and Hitmonlee (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Venusaur is the most dangerous since Grass moves deal 4x damage. Ground-type attackers are also a problem. At base 35 Speed, Omanyte won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
In Red & Blue, Omanyte fills the trick room role. It's a mixed attacker with base 40 Attack and 90 Special. Base 35 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
In Red & Blue, Omanyte does the job early-game if you need a Rock/Water type on your team. Evolve it into Omastar before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.
Omanyte evolves into Omastar at level 40. Takes some grinding. Plan your team around the mid-game wait.
