Its heavy shell is thought to be the reason this ancient Pokémon died out. It’s apparently a distant ancestor of Octillery.

Omastar Weakness

Omastar's Rock/Water typing leaves it vulnerable to Grass, Electric, Fighting, and Ground. Grass hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Omastar's physical bulk (base 125 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

How to Get Omastar in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon

You're catching Omanyte first, not Omastar. Omanyte appears at moderate rates in the encounters below. The step cards map the full 2-stage line with evolution methods between each stage.

Omastar Guide

  • In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Swift Swim changes the entire equation for Omastar. The 495 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a wallbreaker. Blizzard with Choice Specs is the standard set.

  • In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, watch for Exeggutor (Grass), Raikou (Electric), and Machamp (Fighting) when using Omastar. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Exeggutor is the most dangerous since Grass moves deal 4x damage. Ground-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Swift Swim is what you want on Omastar. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Shell Armor, Weak Armor) work on paper but Swift Swim is what makes Omastar worth using. On wall sets, Swift Swim pairs with Omastar's base 125 Defense to absorb physical hits on the switch.

  • At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Omastar is a special attacker with base 115 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a wallbreaker.

  • For Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Omastar has answers, but so do you. Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Physical attackers can break through.

Game Availability

One of the original 151, Omastar has appeared in 19 games — most mainline games. From Red & Blue through the latest titles, it's rarely been left out of a regional Pokedex.
