Stats & Training
Bulk defines Omastar's stat line. Defense and Special anchor the defensive side, but Speed can't keep up offensively. Tough to catch and worth 2 Defense stat exp.
Sharp beaks ring its mouth. Its shell was too big for it to move freely, so it became extinct.
Omastar Weakness
Omastar's Rock/Water typing leaves it vulnerable to Grass, Electric, Fighting, and Ground. Grass hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Omastar's overall bulk (70/125/115) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Grass |
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Fighting, Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Normal, Ice, Poison, Flying |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Fire |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split
In Yellow, Jolteon's Thunderbolt hits Omastar for 67-79%. Golem's Earthquake hits Omastar for 75-89%.

Omastar Guide
For Yellow, we rate Omastar C-Tier: a niche pick in Yellow's meta. At 540 BST, it fits the wallbreaker role. Hydro Pump anchors the moveset.
In Yellow, watch for Exeggutor (Grass), Raikou (Electric), and Machamp (Fighting) when using Omastar. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Exeggutor is the most dangerous since Grass moves deal 4x damage. Ground-type attackers are also a problem. Omastar has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.
At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Omastar is a mixed attacker with base 60 Attack and 115 Special. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a wallbreaker.
In Yellow, run Hydro Pump, Blizzard, Rest, and Surf on Omastar. Hydro Pump is the most common pick at 17% usage. Surf provides reliable STAB damage.
For Yellow, Omastar has answers, but so do you. Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Physical attackers can break through.
