Stats & Training
The stat budget goes to damage. Attack and Special carry the offense, Special doesn't even come close. A Flycatcher Pokemon on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve, worth 0 HP stat exp per KO.
It spits out PoisonPowder to immobilize the enemy and then finishes it with a spray of Acid.
Weepinbell Weakness
Type-wise, Weepinbell takes extra damage from Bug, Fire, Ice, Flying, and Psychic. Watch out for Bug attacks, those deal 4x damage. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Bug |
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Ice, Flying, Psychic |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Electric, Fighting |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

Weepinbell Guide
Weepinbell is meant to evolve into Victreebel. At 390 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.
In Yellow, Weepinbell's biggest threats include Scyther (Bug), Charizard (Fire), and Cloyster (Ice), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Scyther is the most dangerous since Bug moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Psychic-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
In Yellow, Bellsprout evolves into Weepinbell at level 21. Weepinbell evolves into Victreebel using a Leaf Stone. Weepinbell is a middle-stage evolution in the Bellsprout line.
At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Weepinbell is a mixed attacker with base 90 Attack and 85 Special. Defensively? Fragile, can't afford to take many hits.
For Yellow, you can run Weepinbell through the first few routes without issues. 390 BST won't carry you far though. Get it to Victreebel as fast as you can.
