Stats & Training
Attack and Defense carry most of Tyrantrum's stat budget. Sp. Def's the obvious dump stat. Tough to catch and yields 2 Attack EVs. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Thanks to its gargantuan jaws, which could shred thick metal plates as if they were paper, it was invincible in the ancient world it once inhabited.
Nothing could stop this Pokémon 100 million years ago, so it behaved like a king.
Tyrantrum Weakness
Ice, Fighting, Ground, Dragon, Steel, and Fairy moves hit Tyrantrum for super-effective damage. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Tyrantrum's physical bulk (base 119 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ice, Fighting, Ground, Dragon, Steel, Fairy |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Normal, Electric, Poison, Flying |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Fire |
In X & Y, Clefable can KO Tyrantrum with Moonblast (99-117%). Garchomp threatens a KO with Earthquake (93-110%).

X & Y Evolution
Evolved from Tyrunt. Tyrantrum is the final form in this two-stage line. A decent partner pool for breeding via two egg groups. Eggs are slow to hatch. Defense grew the most through evolution (+42 over Tyrunt), and Tyrantrum peaks at 521 total stats. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Tyrantrum to get Tyrunt eggs using 50 partners from the Dragon and Monster egg groups. Notable egg moves include Curse, Dragon Dance, Fire Fang and 4 more.
X & Y Tyrantrum Best Moveset
Prediction matters here. Choice Scarf means Tyrantrum can't change moves after clicking, but the payoff is speed patching through item lock. Max Attack and Speed EVs with Rockhead back that up. Ground coverage prevents free switches.

Moves
Don't skip the egg moves. Tyrantrum picks up Curse and Dragon Dance only through breeding, and both fill gaps the natural movepool can't. STAB runs through Head Smash and Draco Meteor while coverage across 9 types adds range.

How to Get Tyrantrum in X & Y
Can't catch Tyrantrum directly. Start with Tyrunt but it's a rare spawn from the locations below, then evolve at level 39. The 2-stage line from Tyrunt to Tyrantrum is where the leveling time goes.

Tyrantrum Guide
In X & Y, Strong Jaw changes the entire equation for Tyrantrum. The 521 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a wallbreaker. Head Smash with Choice Scarf is the standard set.
Strong Jaw is what you want on Tyrantrum. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Rock Head) work on paper but Strong Jaw is what makes Tyrantrum worth using. On wall sets, Strong Jaw pairs with Tyrantrum's base 119 Defense to absorb physical hits on the switch.
Base 71 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Tyrantrum is a physical attacker with base 121 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a wallbreaker.
For X & Y, Tyrantrum has answers, but so do you. Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Special attackers bypass its physical bulk.
Game Availability
