Moves

The egg pool carries weight here. Barrier and Discharge aren't available any other way for Amaura, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Blizzard and Stone Edge for solid options.

Amaura Guide

  • At 362 BST, Amaura is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Aurorus before bringing it to any serious fight.

  • In X & Y, Amaura's biggest threats include Lucario (Fighting), Metagross (Steel), and Milotic (Water), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Lucario is the most dangerous since Fighting moves deal 4x damage. Grass, Ground, and Rock-type attackers are also a problem. With 6 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Amaura gets Snow Warning and Refrigerate. But Snow Warning is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.

  • In X & Y, Snow Warning is the hidden ability. It summons hail that lasts indefinitely upon entering battle. Worth hunting for if you want Amaura to compete at a higher level.

  • Amaura is leaning toward the special side (base 67 Sp. Atk). Speed tells the real story. Base 46 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.

Game Availability

Since X & Y, Amaura has been obtainable in 6 games. A Generation 6 debut means a shorter history, but Amaura has appeared steadily across every generation since.
