Stats & Training
An unusually even spread gives Meganium flexibility. Defense barely edges ahead. But HP isn't far off. Tough to catch and follows a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve. Yields 3 Defense and Sp. Def EVs.
The aroma that rises from its petals contains a substance that calms aggressive feelings.
Meganium’s breath has the power to revive dead grass and plants. It can make them healthy again.
Meganium Weakness
Type-wise, Meganium takes extra damage from Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Meganium's overall bulk (80/100/100) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Electric, Grass, Ground |
In X & Y, Weavile's Ice Shard hits Meganium for 43-51%. Zapdos deals 39-46% with Heat Wave.

X & Y Evolution
End of the line. Meganium caps a three-stage chain that started at Chikorita. Breeding produces the base form, and eggs are average hatch time. HP grew the most through evolution (+35 over Chikorita), and Meganium peaks at 525 total stats. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Meganium to get Chikorita eggs easily using 59 partners from the Plant and Monster egg groups. Notable egg moves include Ancient Power, Aromatherapy, Body Slam and 12 more.
X & Y Meganium Best Moveset
Nothing fancy here. Meganium builds around Leftovers for passive recovery each turn, Bold nature for the right stat lean, and HP-heavy investment EVs. Leafguard does its job quietly.

Moves
The egg pool carries weight here. Ancient Power and Aromatherapy aren't available any other way for Meganium, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Frenzy Plant and Leaf Storm for solid options.

Meganium isn't available in the wild in X & Y. Start by transferring Chikorita from Gold, Crystal, or Brilliant Diamond. The evolution path from Chikorita to Meganium is covered in the steps below.
How to Obtain Meganium in X & Y
Meganium Guide
For X & Y, we rate Meganium C-Tier: a niche pick in X & Y's meta. At 525 BST, the stats are spread pretty evenly. Giga Drain with Leftovers is the standard set.
Overgrow is the go-to ability for Meganium. It strengthens grass moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. Its hidden ability Leaf Guard can work in specific setups.
Base 80 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Meganium is leaning toward the special side (base 83 Sp. Atk). Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits.
In X & Y, the best way to handle Meganium: Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Fire, Ice, and Poison-type attackers hit hardest.
Game Availability
Available in 17 titles since its debut in Gold & Silver, Meganium spans 9 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through wild encounters in most mainline games.
