Stats & Training
Tropius's spread favors balanced defenses over offense. HP leads the defensive side, Speed eats the cost. Yields 2 HP EVs per defeat. Slow 1.25M XP grind to level.
It flies by flapping its broad leaves. The bunch of fruit that grows around its neck is deliciously sweet. In the spring, it scatters pollen from its neck.
Tropius Weakness
Ice, Fire, Poison, Flying, and Rock moves hit Tropius for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Ground-type moves can't touch it at all.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Ice |
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Poison, Flying, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Fighting |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass |
| 0x (Immune) | Ground |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet

Emerald Evolution
Tropius is what you get. No evolutions, but it breeds through two egg groups with a decent partner pool. Hatching is average hatch time. It's got 5 egg moves worth looking into. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed Tropius easily with 35 breeding partners from the Plant and Monster egg groups. Pass egg moves like Headbutt, Leech Seed, Nature Power and 2 more to offspring.
Emerald Tropius Best Moveset
max HP and Sp. Def EVs and Calm nature turn Tropius into a wall that doesn't fold easily. Leftovers brings passive recovery each turn for the long game, and the moveset handles sustain. Chlorophyll fills in the gaps.
Best Build
Tropius best EVs are HP and Sp. Def

- Leech Seed
- Earthquake

Moves
Without breeding, Tropius misses out on Headbutt and Leech Seed. That's 5 egg moves adding depth that the base kit lacks. STAB comes from Solar Beam and Fly, with Normal and Ground coverage and more rounding things out.

Tropius Guide
In Emerald, Don't let Tropius's 460 base stat total fool you. Chlorophyll is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier. Leech Seed with Leftovers is the standard set.
In Emerald, watch for Lapras (Ice), Charizard (Fire), and Nidoking (Poison) when using Tropius. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Lapras is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Rock-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
In Emerald, Run Chlorophyll on Tropius. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Tropius also gets Solar Power and Harvest, but they don't compare.
In Emerald, Tropius fills the balanced role. It's a mixed attacker with base 68 Attack and 72 Sp. Atk. At base 51 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
For Emerald, Tropius has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Ice, Fire, and Poison-type attackers hit hardest.
