It is completely covered with plushy fur. As a result, it never feels the cold even when it is rolling about on ice floes or diving in the sea.

Spheal Weakness

Spheal's Ice/Water typing leaves it vulnerable to Electric, Grass, Fighting, and Rock. Thick Fat reduces Fire/Ice damage, further improving the defensive spread.

Spheal Guide

  • Sealeo at level 32 is the mid-stage. Push through to Walrein at level 44 for the final form. 290 BST right now won't cut it long-term.

  • Level 32 gets you Sealeo. Not the fastest evolution, so consider Exp. Share or route grinding to speed it up.

  • In Emerald, Spheal does the job early-game if you need a Ice/Water type on your team. Evolve it into Sealeo before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.

  • You can find Spheal in Emerald. The Locations section has the full breakdown of routes and encounter details. It also appears in 14 other games across the series.

Game Availability

Spheal first appeared in Ruby & Sapphire and has been available in 15 games across 8 generations. Obtainable through catching or hatching as a base form in most titles where it appears.
