Stats & Training
Dugtrio's all-in on Speed at the expense of HP. The physical lean is obvious from the bars. Yields 2 Speed EVs and follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Because the triplets originally split from one body, they think exactly alike. They work cooperatively to burrow endlessly through the ground.
Dugtrio Weakness
Dugtrio's Ground typing leaves it vulnerable to Water, Grass, and Ice. It shrugs off Electric-type attacks completely. At base 120 Speed, Dugtrio outspeeds most threats and doesn't need to tank what it can outrun.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Water, Grass, Ice |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Poison, Rock |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
In Emerald, Houndoom can KO Dugtrio with Fire Blast (101-119%). Qwilfish's Self-Destruct also KOs at 113-133%.

How to Get Dugtrio in Emerald
Dugtrio isn't available in the wild in Emerald. Start by transferring Diglett from Red, Yellow, or Let's Go Pikachu. The evolution path from Diglett to Dugtrio is covered in the steps below.
Dugtrio Guide
For Emerald, it depends on your team. Dugtrio at 405 BST isn't a powerhouse, but the Ground coverage might be exactly what you're missing.
In Emerald, Dugtrio has a 405 base stat total and ranks as A-Tier: a strong pick in Emerald's competitive scene. It works best as a pivot. Earthquake with Choice Band is the standard set.
Sand Veil increases evasion to 1.25× during a sandstorm. That's the one you want on Dugtrio. Sand Force is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Arena Trap works too if your team needs something different.
Game Availability
Dugtrio first appeared in Red & Blue and spans 20 games across 10 generations. It later gained an Alolan form in Generation 7, adding new dimensions to its competitive identity.
