Tropius Weakness

Ice, Fire, Poison, Flying, and Rock moves hit Tropius for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Ground-type moves can't touch it at all.

Tropius Guide

  • In Platinum, Don't let Tropius's 460 base stat total fool you. Chlorophyll is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier. Solarbeam with Life Orb is the standard set.

  • In Platinum, watch for Lapras (Ice), Charizard (Fire), and Nidoking (Poison) when using Tropius. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Lapras is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Rock-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • In Platinum, Run Chlorophyll on Tropius. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Tropius also gets Solar Power and Harvest, but they don't compare.

  • In Platinum, Tropius fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 68 Attack. At base 51 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • For Platinum, Tropius has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Ice, Fire, and Poison-type attackers hit hardest.

Game Availability

Tropius first appeared in Ruby & Sapphire and has been available in 15 games across 8 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
