Stats & Training
The stat line revolves around HP. Percentage recovery gets extra mileage here. Sp. Def backs it up, though Attack doesn't pull its weight. Worth 3 HP EVs on a fast 800K XP curve to max out.
If it senses sadness with its fluffy fur, a BLISSEY will rush over to the sad person, however far away, to share an egg of happiness that brings a smile to any face.
Blissey Weakness
Type-wise, Blissey takes extra damage from Fighting. Ghost moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. Blissey's special bulk (base 135 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fighting |
| 0x (Immune) | Ghost |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move

Emerald Evolution
The three-stage chain from Happiny through Chansey ends here at Blissey. Want more? Breed for Happiny eggs. A decent partner pool available via one egg group. The evolution from Happiny pushed Blissey to 540 total stats. HP saw the largest single gain at +155. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Blissey to get Happiny eggs (with patience) using 27 partners from the Fairy egg group. Notable egg moves include Aromatherapy, Heal Bell, Metronome and 2 more.
Emerald Blissey Best Moveset
Bulk and offense in one package. Blissey runs Leftovers for passive recovery each turn with a Modest nature, so it survives long enough to threaten with Soft-Boiled. Max Sp. Atk without Speed EVs and the remaining moves make it hard to safely switch into.
Best Build
Blissey best EVs are Defense and Sp. Atk
Special Tank Moveset
- Soft Boiled
- Ice Beam
- Seismic Toss
- Thunder Wave
Recommended Teammates
Moves
Hard to wall, honestly. Blissey threatens 11 types beyond its own STAB, with Ice and Fighting standing out. Pair that with Hyper Beam and Double-Edge and switchins need to think twice.

How to Get Blissey in Emerald
No wild encounters for Blissey in Emerald. Bring Chansey over from Red, Yellow, or Ultra Sun, then level through the stages. Each step in the chain is laid out below.
Blissey Guide
In Emerald, Blissey looks average on paper at 540 BST. But Natural Cure is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. S-Tier wall on our tier list. Soft Boiled with Leftovers is the standard set.
In Emerald, Blissey's biggest threats include Machamp (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. Blissey has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.
Blissey gets Natural Cure, Serene Grace, and Healer. But Natural Cure is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that. Natural Cure synergizes with Blissey's base 135 Sp.Def, letting it soak special attacks as a pivot.
Blissey is a physical attacker with base 10 Attack. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 55 Speed, it won't be moving first often. Fits the wall role.
In Emerald, the best way to handle Blissey: Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Physical attackers can break through.
