Stats & Training
Tangrowth's spread isn't flashy. Defense leads, Sp. Def trails, 4 stats clear the bar. Tough to catch and worth 2 Defense EVs, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Its arms are made of plants that bind themselves to things. They grow back right away if cut.

Tangrowth Weakness
Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug moves hit Tangrowth for super-effective damage. It resists 4 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Tangrowth's physical bulk (base 125 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Electric, Grass, Ground |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)

Tangrowth Guide
In Black & White, Don't let Tangrowth's 535 base stat total fool you. Regenerator is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as a tank. Leech Seed with Leftovers is the standard set.
In Black & White, Run Regenerator on Tangrowth. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Tangrowth also gets Chlorophyll and Leaf Guard, but they don't compare.
In Black & White, Tangrowth fills the tank role. It's leaning toward the special side (base 110 Sp. Atk). Base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
In Black & White, Tangrowth's hidden ability is Regenerator. Heals for 1/3 max HP upon switching out. Better than the standard options for competitive play.
