Draped with long vines, it resembles a shrub in appearance. It swings bundles of vines as though they were arms, wrapping them around prey to ensnare them.

How to Get Tangrowth in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon

Tangrowth can't be caught in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon. Transfer Tangela from Red, Yellow, or Black 2 and evolve through the 2-stage line to get it. The step cards below map the full chain.

How to Obtain Tangrowth in Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon

  1. Tangrowth
    Step 2Tangrowth

Tangrowth Guide

  • In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Don't let Tangrowth's 535 base stat total fool you. Regenerator is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it B-Tier as a tank. Giga Drain with Assault Vest is the standard set.

  • In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, watch for Arcanine (Fire), Walrein (Ice), and Roserade (Poison) when using Tangrowth. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Flying and Bug-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Run Regenerator on Tangrowth. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Tangrowth also gets Chlorophyll and Leaf Guard, but they don't compare.

  • In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Tangrowth fills the tank role. It's a physical attacker with base 100 Attack. Base 50 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • In Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, run Giga Drain, Knock Off, Earthquake, and Hiddenpowerice on Tangrowth. Giga Drain is the most common pick at 21% usage. This set covers the tank role with a mix of damage and utility.

Game Availability

Tangrowth first appeared in Diamond & Pearl and has been available in 13 games across 7 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
