Stats & Training
Sunflora's spread isn't flashy. Sp. Atk leads, Speed trails, 2 stats clear the bar. Common in the wild and worth 2 Sp. Atk EVs, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
In the daytime, it rushes about in a hectic manner, but it comes to a complete stop when the sun sets.
It converts sunlight into energy. In the darkness after sunset, it closes its petals and becomes still.
Sunflora Weakness
Sunflora is weak to Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, and Bug. It resists 4 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Sunflora's special bulk (base 85 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Ice, Poison, Flying, Bug |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Electric, Grass, Ground |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
In FireRed & LeafGreen, Aerodactyl's Double-Edge hits Sunflora for 77-91%. Forretress's Explosion hits Sunflora for 75-88%. Charizard's Fire Blast also KOs at 103-121%.

FireRed & LeafGreen Evolution
Sunflora doesn't evolve through normal leveling. You'll need an evolution item to get here from Sunkern's line. Breed this form to get Sunkern eggs (average hatch time). Evolving from Sunkern gave Sunflora the biggest boost in Sp.Atk (+75), bringing the total to 425 stats. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Sunflora to get Sunkern eggs easily using 35 partners from the Plant egg group. Notable egg moves include Curse, Encore, Grass Whistle and 3 more.
FireRed & LeafGreen Sunflora Best Moveset
Bulk and offense in one package. Sunflora runs Leftovers for passive recovery each turn with a Timid nature, so it survives long enough to threaten with Leech Seed. Max HP and Speed EVs and Normal coverage make it hard to safely switch into.

How to Get Sunflora in FireRed & LeafGreen
No wild encounters for Sunflora in FireRed & LeafGreen. Bring Sunkern over from Gold, Crystal, or Scarlet, then level through the stages. Each step in the chain is laid out below.
Sunflora Guide
In FireRed & LeafGreen, Sunflora's biggest threats include Charizard (Fire), Cloyster (Ice), and Crobat (Poison), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Flying and Bug-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter. At base 30 Speed, Sunflora won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
In FireRed & LeafGreen, Sunkern evolves into Sunflora using a Sun Stone. Sunflora is the fully evolved form. It sits at 425 BST in its evolved form.
In FireRed & LeafGreen, Sunflora can work for a story run. 425 BST is average, but Grass typing fills a niche depending on your team composition.
In FireRed & LeafGreen, Don't let Sunflora's 425 base stat total fool you. Chlorophyll is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as an attacker. Leech Seed with Leftovers is the standard set.
In FireRed & LeafGreen, Run Chlorophyll on Sunflora. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Sunflora also gets Solar Power and Early Bird, but they don't compare.
Game Availability
Sunflora has been available in 16 games since Gold & Silver, though obtaining it requires an item-based evolution. This extra step makes it less common than Pokemon found through standard wild encounters.
