Stats & Training
You won't find a real weakness in Seel's stat line. It's well-rounded for the Sea Lion Pokemon, and what it does with that depends on moveset and items. Yields 1 Special stat exp, on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
Loves freezing cold conditions. Relishes swimming in a frigid climate of around 14F degrees.
Seel Weakness
Type-wise, Seel takes extra damage from Electric and Grass. Not many exploitable gaps in the Water typing defensive chart. Seel's Water typing only leaves 2 gaps to cover.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

Seel Guide
At 350 BST, Seel is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Dewgong before bringing it to any serious fight.
Seel is a special attacker with base 70 Special. Speed tells the real story. Base 45 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go.
In Yellow, For a casual playthrough, Seel works as a placeholder. Water coverage is useful early. The real payoff is Dewgong. That's where the stats start mattering.
Seel evolves into Dewgong at level 34. Takes some grinding. Plan your team around the mid-game wait.
Game Availability
Present since Red & Blue, Seel appears in 19 games spanning 10 generations. Gen 1 originals like Seel have the longest track record of availability in the series.
