Stats & Training
You won't find a real weakness in Palpitoad's stat line. It's well-rounded for the Vibration Pokemon, and what it does with that depends on moveset and items. Yields 2 HP EVs, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
When they vibrate the bumps on their heads, they can make waves in water or earthquake-like vibrations on land.
It lives in the water and on land. It uses its long, sticky tongue to immobilize its opponents.
Palpitoad Weakness
Palpitoad is weak to Grass. Watch out for Grass attacks, those deal 4x damage. On the flip side, it's immune to Electric-type moves entirely. The Water/Ground typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Water Absorb grants an additional Water immunity, reshaping the matchup chart.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Poison, Rock, Steel |
| 0x (Immune) | Electric |
In X & Y, Venusaur threatens a KO with Giga Drain (116-136%).

X & Y Evolution
Palpitoad sits between Tympole and Seismitoad in this three-stage line. Not the final form yet. For breeding, average hatch time with plenty of partners via one egg group. HP has grown the most so far (+25), but there's still another 125 stats to gain in the final evolution. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Palpitoad to get Tympole eggs easily using 87 partners from the Water1 egg group. Notable egg moves include After You, Earth Power, Mist and 6 more.
X & Y Palpitoad Best Moveset
This is a pure walling set. Eviolite provides a bulk boost that only works before full evolution so Palpitoad sticks around, and the Calm nature reinforces special wall. Rest handles sustain while Waterabsorb does work passively.

Palpitoad Guide
At 384 BST, Palpitoad is firmly in pre-evolution territory. Evolve it into Seismitoad before bringing it to any serious fight.
In X & Y, Tympole evolves into Palpitoad at level 25. Palpitoad evolves into Seismitoad at level 36. Palpitoad is a middle-stage evolution in the Tympole line.
Palpitoad gets Swift Swim, Hydration, and Water Absorb. But Swift Swim is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.
In X & Y, Water Absorb is the hidden ability. It absorbs water moves, healing for 1/4 max HP. Worth hunting for if you want Palpitoad to compete at a higher level.
