Stats & Training
Jumpluff's spread isn't flashy. Speed leads, Attack trails, 2 stats clear the bar. Tough to catch and worth 3 Speed EVs, on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
Blown by seasonal winds, it circles the globe, scattering cotton spores as it goes.
Jumpluff Weakness
Ice, Fire, Poison, Flying, and Rock moves hit Jumpluff for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Ground-type moves can't touch it at all. Jumpluff's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Ice |
| 2x (Weak) | Fire, Poison, Flying, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Water, Fighting |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass |
| 0x (Immune) | Ground |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)
In Platinum, Infernape's Fire Blast hits Jumpluff for 80-94%. Dragonite threatens a KO with Outrage (132-155%). Gengar deals 68-80% with Explosion.

How to Get Jumpluff in Platinum
Can't catch Jumpluff directly. Start with Hoppip at decent rates from the locations below, then evolve at level 27. The 3-stage chain from Hoppip to Jumpluff is where the leveling time goes.
Jumpluff Guide
In Platinum, Don't let Jumpluff's 460 base stat total fool you. Chlorophyll is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it C-Tier as a pivot. Sleep Powder with Wide Lens is the standard set.
In Platinum, watch for Cloyster (Ice), Arcanine (Fire), and Nidoking (Poison) when using Jumpluff. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Cloyster is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Flying and Rock-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.
In Platinum, Run Chlorophyll on Jumpluff. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. Jumpluff also gets Leaf Guard and Infiltrator, but they don't compare.
In Platinum, Jumpluff fills the pivot role. It's leaning toward the physical side (base 55 Attack). Base 110 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
In Platinum, run Sleep Powder, Leech Seed, Substitute, and Stun Spore on Jumpluff. Sleep Powder is the most common pick at 21% usage. This set covers the pivot role with a mix of damage and utility.
