Torterra Weakness

Ice, Fire, Flying, and Bug moves hit Torterra for super-effective damage. Ice hits land at 4x, so they're the biggest threat. The upside? Electric-type moves can't touch it at all. Torterra's overall bulk (95/105/85) lets it take a hit or two from most weaknesses before going down.

Moves

Without breeding, Torterra misses out on Amnesia and Body Slam. That's 10 egg moves adding depth that the base kit lacks. STAB comes from Frenzy Plant and Leaf Storm, with Normal and Dark coverage and more rounding things out.

How to Get Torterra in Platinum

You're catching Turtwig first, not Torterra. Turtwig appears but it's a rare spawn in the encounters below. The step cards map the full 3-stage chain with evolution methods between each stage.

Torterra Guide

  • In Platinum, Torterra works as a tank with 525 BST behind it. C-Tier on our list: a niche pick in Platinum's meta. Earthquake with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In Platinum, watch for Cloyster (Ice), Arcanine (Fire), and Salamence (Flying) when using Torterra. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Cloyster is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Bug-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Overgrow strengthens grass moves to inflict 1.5× damage at 1/3 max HP or less. That's the one you want on Torterra. Shell Armor is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • Torterra is a physical attacker with base 109 Attack. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 56 Speed, it won't be moving first often. Fits the tank role.

  • For Platinum, Torterra has answers, but so do you. Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Special attackers bypass its physical bulk.

Game Availability

Debuting in Diamond & Pearl, Torterra appears in 12 games across 7 generations. A reliable presence in a solid number of games, typically found through wild encounters.
