Stats & Training
Jolteon's built around special offense. Speed leads the charge, Defense pays for it. Tough to catch, worth 2 Speed stat exp. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
The negatively charged ions generated in its fur create a constant sparking noise.
Jolteon Weakness
Jolteon's Electric typing leaves it vulnerable to Ground. Its Electric typing keeps the defensive matchups simple. Jolteon's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Electric, Flying, Steel |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
In Crystal, Cloyster can KO Jolteon with Explosion (96-113%).

Jolteon Guide
In Crystal, Jolteon has a 525 base stat total and ranks as A-Tier: a strong pick in Crystal's competitive scene. It works best as a setup sweeper. Thunderbolt with Leftovers is the standard set.
In Crystal, watch for Rhydon (Ground) when using Jolteon. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
In Crystal, Jolteon fills the setup sweeper role. It's a special attacker with base 110 Sp. Atk. Base 130 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
For Crystal, Jolteon has answers, but so do you. Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.
In Crystal, run Thunderbolt, Baton Pass, Thunder Wave, and Growth on Jolteon. Thunderbolt is the most common pick at 16% usage. Thunderbolt provides reliable STAB damage. Growth lets it set up before sweeping.
