Stats & Training
Jolteon's built around special offense. Speed leads the charge, Defense pays for it. Tough to catch, worth 2 Speed stat exp. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
A sensitive POKéMON that easily becomes sad or angry. Every time its mood changes, it charges power.
Jolteon Weakness
Jolteon's Electric typing leaves it vulnerable to Ground. Its Electric typing keeps the defensive matchups simple. Jolteon's special bulk (base 110 Special) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Electric, Flying |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split
In Yellow, Gengar's Explosion hits Jolteon for 70-83%.

Jolteon Guide
In Yellow, Jolteon has a 540 base stat total and ranks as A-Tier: a strong pick in Yellow's competitive scene. It works best as a sweeper. Thunderbolt anchors the moveset.
In Yellow, watch for Rhydon (Ground) when using Jolteon. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
In Yellow, Jolteon fills the sweeper role. It's a special attacker with base 110 Special. Base 130 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
For Yellow, Jolteon has answers, but so do you. Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.
In Yellow, run Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Doublekick, and Pin Missile on Jolteon. Thunderbolt is the most common pick at 24% usage. Thunderbolt provides reliable STAB damage.
