Stats & Training
Jolteon's built around special offense. Speed leads the charge, Defense pays for it. Tough to catch, worth 2 Speed stat exp. Follows a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
It accumulates negative ions in the atmosphere to blast out 10000-volt lightning bolts.

Jolteon Weakness
Jolteon's Electric typing leaves it vulnerable to Ground. Its Electric typing keeps the defensive matchups simple. Jolteon's special bulk (base 110 Special) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ground |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Electric, Flying |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split
In Red & Blue, Gengar's Explosion hits Jolteon for 70-83%.

Jolteon Guide
In Red & Blue, Jolteon has a 540 base stat total and ranks as A-Tier: a strong pick in Red & Blue's competitive scene. It works best as a sweeper. Thunderbolt anchors the moveset.
In Red & Blue, watch for Rhydon (Ground) when using Jolteon. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
In Red & Blue, Jolteon fills the sweeper role. It's a special attacker with base 110 Special. Base 130 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.
For Red & Blue, Jolteon has answers, but so do you. Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.
In Red & Blue, run Thunderbolt, Thunder Wave, Doublekick, and Pin Missile on Jolteon. Thunderbolt is the most common pick at 24% usage. Thunderbolt provides reliable STAB damage.
