Moves

The natural movepool does the job, but Disable and Encore from the egg pool give Dewgong something extra. Pair those with Blizzard and Ice Beam for STAB and Normal and Ghost coverage for reach, and the kit fills out nicely.

Dewgong Guide

  • In Crystal, Dewgong has a 475 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier: a niche pick in Crystal's meta. It works best as a balanced. Toxic with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In Crystal, watch for Raikou (Electric), Venusaur (Grass), and Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Dewgong. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Rock-type attackers are also a problem.

  • In Crystal, Dewgong fills the balanced role. It's a special attacker with base 70 Sp. Atk. Base 70 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • For Crystal, Dewgong has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Electric, Grass, and Fighting-type attackers hit hardest.

  • In Crystal, use Dewgong as a balanced. Special attacks are the main output. Speed is middling, Surf is the primary attack.

Game Availability

Dewgong has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 19 titles across all 10 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
