It concentrates the weak electric charges emitted by its cells and launches wicked lightning bolts.

Jolteon Weakness

Jolteon's Electric typing leaves it vulnerable to Ground. Its Electric typing keeps the defensive matchups simple. Jolteon's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

Moves

Without TMs, Jolteon's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Normal and Fighting coverage and more on top of Zap Cannon and Thunder for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Jolteon Guide

  • In Gold & Silver, Jolteon has a 525 base stat total and ranks as A-Tier: a strong pick in Gold & Silver's competitive scene. It works best as a setup sweeper. Thunderbolt with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In Gold & Silver, watch for Rhydon (Ground) when using Jolteon. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • In Gold & Silver, Jolteon fills the setup sweeper role. It's a special attacker with base 110 Sp. Atk. Base 130 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • For Gold & Silver, Jolteon has answers, but so do you. Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.

  • In Gold & Silver, run Thunderbolt, Baton Pass, Thunder Wave, and Growth on Jolteon. Thunderbolt is the most common pick at 16% usage. Thunderbolt provides reliable STAB damage. Growth lets it set up before sweeping.

Game Availability

Jolteon has been part of the series since Red & Blue, appearing in 22 titles across all 10 generations. As a Gen 1 original, it's one of the most consistently available Pokemon in the franchise.
