X & Y Glaceon Best Moveset

You commit to a move every time Glaceon comes in. Choice Specs gives boosted special damage with move lock, and Icebody adds to that. Max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs make sure the locked move actually hurts. The remaining moves covers the rest.

Moves

The natural movepool does the job, but Captivate and Charm from the egg pool give Glaceon something extra. Pair those with Blizzard and Ice Beam for STAB and Normal and Dark coverage and more for reach, and the kit fills out nicely.

Glaceon Guide

  • In X & Y, Glaceon has a 525 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier: a niche pick in X & Y's meta. It works best as a wallbreaker. Ice Beam with Choice Specs is the standard set.

  • In X & Y, watch for Infernape (Fire), Machamp (Fighting), and Aerodactyl (Rock) when using Glaceon. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Steel-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Snow Cloak increases evasion to 1.25× during hail. That's the one you want on Glaceon. Ice Body is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses.

  • In X & Y, Glaceon fills the wallbreaker role. It's a special attacker with base 130 Sp. Atk. At base 65 Speed, it won't be moving first often. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • In X & Y, run Ice Beam, Shadow Ball, Hiddenpowerground, and Blizzard on Glaceon. Ice Beam is the most common pick at 13% usage. Blizzard provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

Glaceon has been available in 14 games since Diamond & Pearl, though obtaining it requires an item-based evolution. This extra step makes it less common than Pokemon found through standard wild encounters.
