Stats & Training
The stat bars tell the story: Defense carries everything and Speed's dead weight. But this Coffin Pokemon still yields 2 Defense EVs per fight on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
This Pokémon has a body of sparkling gold. People say it no longer remembers that it was once human.
There are many depictions of Cofagrigus decorating ancient tombs. They’re symbols of the wealth that kings of bygone eras had.
Cofagrigus Weakness
Cofagrigus's Ghost typing leaves it vulnerable to Ghost and Dark. It shrugs off Normal and Fighting-type attacks completely. Cofagrigus's physical bulk (base 145 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ghost, Dark |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Poison, Bug |
| 0x (Immune) | Normal, Fighting |
In Sword & Shield, Dragapult can KO Cofagrigus with Shadow Ball (98-115%). Weavile's Knock Off hits Cofagrigus for 36-42%. Blacephalon's Shadow Ball also KOs at 88-104%.

Sword & Shield Evolution
Cofagrigus is what Yamask becomes. Breed it for Yamask eggs (average hatch time). A decent partner pool for breeding via two egg groups. Eggs are average hatch time. The evolution from Yamask pushed Cofagrigus to 483 total stats. Defense saw the largest single gain at +60. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Cofagrigus to get Yamask eggs easily using 46 partners from the Indeterminate and Mineral egg groups. Notable egg moves include Memento.
Sword & Shield Cofagrigus Best Moveset
Mental Herb and Mummy form the backbone. Cofagrigus invests max HP and Defense EVs to play its setup attacker role properly, and Relaxed nature pushes Defense higher. Trickroom handles the heavy lifting on offense. The remaining moves rounds it out.

Moves
The level-up pool is slim, so TMs matter here. Cofagrigus's Dark and Fighting coverage and more all comes from technical machines, built on top of Poltergeist and Phantom Force for same-type damage. Energy Ball and Giga Impact are the payoff moves.

Cofagrigus Guide
In Sword & Shield, Cofagrigus works as a trick room with 483 BST behind it. C-Tier on our list: a niche pick in Sword & Shield's meta. Trickroom with Mental Herb is the standard set.
In Sword & Shield, watch for Chandelure (Ghost) and Hydreigon (Dark) when using Cofagrigus. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 30 Speed, Cofagrigus won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Mummy changes attacking Pokémon's abilities to Mummy on contact. That's the one you want on Cofagrigus. It's the only ability Cofagrigus has.
Cofagrigus is leaning toward the special side (base 95 Sp. Atk). Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the trick room role.
For Sword & Shield, Cofagrigus has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Ghost and Dark-type attackers hit hardest.
