Cofagrigus Weakness

Cofagrigus's Ghost typing leaves it vulnerable to Ghost and Dark. It shrugs off Normal and Fighting-type attacks completely. Cofagrigus's physical bulk (base 145 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Sword & Shield Cofagrigus Best Moveset

Mental Herb and Mummy form the backbone. Cofagrigus invests max HP and Defense EVs to play its setup attacker role properly, and Relaxed nature pushes Defense higher. Trickroom handles the heavy lifting on offense. The remaining moves rounds it out.

The level-up pool is slim, so TMs matter here. Cofagrigus's Dark and Fighting coverage and more all comes from technical machines, built on top of Poltergeist and Phantom Force for same-type damage. Energy Ball and Giga Impact are the payoff moves.

How to Get Cofagrigus in Sword & Shield

No wild encounters for Cofagrigus. The 2-stage line runs through Yamask, which you can catch at solid rates from the locations below. Evolve at level 34 once you've got the levels.

Cofagrigus Guide

  • In Sword & Shield, Cofagrigus works as a trick room with 483 BST behind it. C-Tier on our list: a niche pick in Sword & Shield's meta. Trickroom with Mental Herb is the standard set.

  • In Sword & Shield, watch for Chandelure (Ghost) and Hydreigon (Dark) when using Cofagrigus. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 30 Speed, Cofagrigus won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.

  • Mummy changes attacking Pokémon's abilities to Mummy on contact. That's the one you want on Cofagrigus. It's the only ability Cofagrigus has.

  • Cofagrigus is leaning toward the special side (base 95 Sp. Atk). Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 30 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. Fits the trick room role.

  • For Sword & Shield, Cofagrigus has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Ghost and Dark-type attackers hit hardest.

Game Availability

Since Black & White, Cofagrigus has been obtainable in 8 games. A Generation 5 debut means a shorter history, but Cofagrigus has appeared steadily across every generation since.
