People fear it due to a belief that it devours any who try to cut down trees in its forest, but to the Pokémon it shares its woods with, it’s kind.

Trevenant Weakness

Fire, Ice, Flying, Ghost, and Dark moves hit Trevenant for super-effective damage. The upside? Normal and Fighting-type moves can't touch it at all. 4 resistances help offset the weaknesses.

Sword & Shield Trevenant Best Moveset

Start with max Attack without Speed EVs. Hardy nature gives Trevenant the right balanced lean, Sitrus Berry adds a one-time health recovery at low HP, and Harvest works in the background. Poltergeist is the main damage option.

Trevenant Guide

  • In Sword & Shield, Natural Cure changes the entire equation for Trevenant. The 474 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as an attacker. Trickroom with Sitrus Berry is the standard set.

  • In Sword & Shield, watch for Volcarona (Fire), Lapras (Ice), and Staraptor (Flying) when using Trevenant. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Ghost and Dark-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • Natural Cure is what you want on Trevenant. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Frisk, Harvest) work on paper but Natural Cure is what makes Trevenant worth using.

  • At base 56 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Trevenant is a physical attacker with base 110 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as an attacker.

  • In Sword & Shield, run Trickroom, Forestscurse, Wood Hammer, and Poltergeist on Trevenant. Trickroom is the most common pick at 23% usage. Poltergeist provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

Trevenant joined the series in X & Y and has been available in 7 titles so far. With 5 generations of appearances, it's established itself despite the later start.
