Stats & Training
The stat budget goes to damage. Sp. Atk and Speed carry the offense, HP doesn't even come close. A Volcano Pokemon on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve, worth 3 Sp. Atk stat exp per KO.
If its rage peaks, it becomes so hot that anything that touches it will instantly go up in flames.
It has a secret, devastating move. It rubs its blazing fur together to cause huge explosions.
Typhlosion Weakness
Water, Ground, and Rock moves hit Typhlosion for super-effective damage. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. With 78 HP and balanced defenses, Typhlosion can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Water, Ground, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
In Gold & Silver, Cloyster's Explosion hits Typhlosion for 71-84%. Zapdos's Thunder hits Typhlosion for 56-66%. Tyranitar's Rock Slide also KOs at 87-102%.

How to Get Typhlosion in Gold & Silver
You're catching Cyndaquil first, not Typhlosion. Cyndaquil appears but it's a rare spawn in the encounters below. The step cards map the full 3-stage chain with evolution methods between each stage.
Typhlosion Guide
For Gold & Silver, we rate Typhlosion B-Tier: a solid option in Gold & Silver for the right team. At 534 BST, it fits the sweeper role. Fire Blast with Charcoal is the standard set.
Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Typhlosion is a special attacker with base 109 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a sweeper.
In Gold & Silver, run Fire Blast, Sunnyday, Dynamicpunch, and Hiddenpowergrass on Typhlosion. Fire Blast is the most common pick at 20% usage. This set covers the sweeper role with a mix of damage and utility.
For Gold & Silver, Typhlosion has answers, but so do you. Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.
Game Availability
Since debuting in Gold & Silver, Typhlosion has appeared in 17 titles over 9 generations. Along the way, it received a Hisuian form in Generation 8, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
