Bulk and offense in one package. Typhlosion runs Leftovers for passive recovery each turn with a Hasty nature, so it survives long enough to threaten with Flamethrower. Max Sp. Atk and Speed EVs and utility options make it hard to safely switch into.

Typhlosion Guide

  • In Emerald, Flash Fire changes the entire equation for Typhlosion. The 534 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a sweeper. Flamethrower with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In Emerald, watch for Starmie (Water) and Golem (Ground) when using Typhlosion. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Rock-type attackers are also a problem.

  • Flash Fire is what you want on Typhlosion. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Blaze) work on paper but Flash Fire is what makes Typhlosion worth using. With base 100 Speed, Flash Fire gives Typhlosion an edge before opponents can react.

  • Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Typhlosion is a special attacker with base 109 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a sweeper.

  • In Emerald, run Flamethrower, Thunderpunch, Hiddenpowergrass, and Substitute on Typhlosion. Flamethrower is the most common pick at 14% usage. Flamethrower provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

Since debuting in Gold & Silver, Typhlosion has appeared in 17 titles over 9 generations. Along the way, it received a Hisuian form in Generation 8, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
