Stats & Training
The stat budget goes to damage. Sp. Atk and Speed carry the offense, HP doesn't even come close. A Volcano Pokemon on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve, worth 3 Sp. Atk EVs per KO.
It attacks using blasts of fire. It creates heat shimmers with intense fire to hide itself.
Typhlosion Weakness
Water, Ground, and Rock moves hit Typhlosion for super-effective damage. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Flash Fire grants an additional Fire immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. With 78 HP and balanced defenses, Typhlosion can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Water, Ground, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks

How to Get Typhlosion in Platinum
Typhlosion isn't available in the wild in Platinum. Start by transferring Cyndaquil from Gold, Crystal, or Legends: Arceus. The evolution path from Cyndaquil to Typhlosion is covered in the steps below.
How to Obtain Typhlosion in Platinum
Typhlosion Guide
In Platinum, Flash Fire changes the entire equation for Typhlosion. The 534 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a sweeper. Eruption with Choice Specs is the standard set.
Flash Fire is what you want on Typhlosion. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Blaze) work on paper but Flash Fire is what makes Typhlosion worth using. With base 100 Speed, Flash Fire gives Typhlosion an edge before opponents can react.
Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. On offense, Typhlosion is a special attacker with base 109 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a sweeper.
In Platinum, Typhlosion's hidden ability is Flash Fire. Protects against fire moves. Better than the standard options for competitive play.
Game Availability
Since debuting in Gold & Silver, Typhlosion has appeared in 17 titles over 9 generations. Along the way, it received a Hisuian form in Generation 8, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
