Stats & Training
Sp. Def leads and Attack gets almost nothing. That's Mantine's stat line in a nutshell. 3 stats sit in respectable range, but the spread is brutal. Very hard to catch and yields 2 Sp. Def EVs.
This calm and gentle Pokémon swims gracefully through the sea. After building speed, it can leap out of the water. It is often misidentified as a bird Pokémon due to this behavior.
Mantine Weakness
Type-wise, Mantine takes extra damage from Electric and Rock. Watch out for Electric attacks, those deal 4x damage. Ground moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Water Absorb grants an additional Water immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Mantine's special bulk (base 140 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Mantine to get Mantyke eggs easily using 95 partners from the Water1 egg group. Notable egg moves include Amnesia, Haze, Hydro Pump and 9 more.
Sun & Moon Mantine Best Moveset
This is a pure walling set. Leftovers provides passive recovery each turn so Mantine sticks around, and the Bold nature reinforces physical wall. Roost handles sustain while Waterabsorb does work passively.

Mantine Guide
In Sun & Moon, Swift Swim changes the entire equation for Mantine. The 485 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a support. Scald with Leftovers is the standard set.
In Sun & Moon, Mantine's biggest threats include Jolteon (Electric) and Aerodactyl (Rock), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Jolteon is the most dangerous since Electric moves deal 4x damage. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
Swift Swim is what you want on Mantine. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Water Absorb, Water Veil) work on paper but Swift Swim is what makes Mantine worth using.
Base 70 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Mantine is a special attacker with base 80 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Tanky enough to absorb a few hits. Best used as a support.
For Sun & Moon, the core moveset is Scald, Roost, Defog, and Toxic. Scald leads at 24% usage. Scald provides reliable STAB damage.
Game Availability
