Flareon Weakness

Flareon is weak to Water, Ground, and Rock. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Flareon's special bulk (base 110 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

TMs carry this one. Flareon learns Fire Blast and Flamethrower naturally for STAB, but the offensive range comes almost entirely from technical machines. Normal and Dark and beyond give it real matchup play.

Flareon Guide

  • For Gold & Silver, we rate Flareon C-Tier: a niche pick in Gold & Silver's meta. At 525 BST, it fits the wallbreaker role. Fire Blast with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In Gold & Silver, Flareon's biggest threats include Gyarados (Water), Rhydon (Ground), and Golem (Rock), all carrying super-effective STAB moves.

  • At base 65 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Flareon is a special attacker with base 95 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a wallbreaker.

  • For Gold & Silver, the core moveset is Fire Blast, Shadow Ball, Quickattack, and Flamethrower. Fire Blast leads at 14% usage. Flamethrower provides reliable STAB damage.

  • In Gold & Silver, the best way to handle Flareon: Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Special attackers bypass its physical bulk.

Game Availability

One of the original 151, Flareon has appeared in 22 games — nearly every mainline game. From Red & Blue through the latest titles, it's rarely been left out of a regional Pokedex.
