Stats & Training
The stat budget goes to damage. Attack and Sp. Def carry the offense, Defense doesn't even come close. A Flame Pokemon on a medium-fast 1M XP curve, worth 2 Attack stat exp per KO.
It stores some of the air it inhales in its internal flame pouch, which heats it to over 3,000 degrees.
It fluffs out its fur collar to cool down its body temperature, which can reach 1,650 degrees.
Flareon Weakness
Flareon is weak to Water, Ground, and Rock. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Flareon's special bulk (base 110 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Water, Ground, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
In Gold & Silver, Golem can KO Flareon with Earthquake (141-166%). Starmie's Surf hits Flareon for 67-79%. Nidoking's Earthquake also KOs at 123-145%.

TMs carry this one. Flareon learns Fire Blast and Flamethrower naturally for STAB, but the offensive range comes almost entirely from technical machines. Normal and Dark and beyond give it real matchup play.

Flareon Guide
For Gold & Silver, we rate Flareon C-Tier: a niche pick in Gold & Silver's meta. At 525 BST, it fits the wallbreaker role. Fire Blast with Leftovers is the standard set.
At base 65 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Flareon is a special attacker with base 95 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a wallbreaker.
For Gold & Silver, the core moveset is Fire Blast, Shadow Ball, Quickattack, and Flamethrower. Fire Blast leads at 14% usage. Flamethrower provides reliable STAB damage.
In Gold & Silver, the best way to handle Flareon: Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Special attackers bypass its physical bulk.
