Stats & Training

Vaporeon's built to absorb hits, not race for knockouts. Special bulk with HP doing the heavy lifting. And the medium-fast 1M XP curve means it won't take forever to bring up, worth 2 HP stat exp.

Vaporeon Weakness

Type-wise, Vaporeon takes extra damage from Electric and Grass. Not many exploitable gaps in the Water typing defensive chart. Vaporeon's special bulk (base 110 Special) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

Moves

The level-up pool tells the story here. Vaporeon learns Hydro Pump and Blizzard naturally, plus enough variety that TMs feel like bonuses. Normal and Dark coverage extends the reach beyond that.

Vaporeon Guide

  • In Yellow, Vaporeon works as a tank with 540 BST behind it. C-Tier on our list: a niche pick in Yellow's meta. Rest anchors the moveset.

  • In Yellow, Vaporeon's biggest threats include Jolteon (Electric) and Exeggutor (Grass), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. Vaporeon has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.

  • Vaporeon is a special attacker with base 110 Special. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 65 Speed, it won't be moving first often. Fits the tank role.

  • For Yellow, the core moveset is Rest, Acidarmor, Hydro Pump, and Ice Beam. Rest leads at 19% usage. This set covers the tank role with a mix of damage and utility.

  • In Yellow, the best way to handle Vaporeon: Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Physical attackers can break through.

Game Availability

Present since Red & Blue, Vaporeon appears in 22 games spanning 10 generations. Gen 1 originals like Vaporeon have the longest track record of availability in the series.
