Hitmontop Guide

  • In Crystal, Hitmontop has a 455 base stat total and ranks as C-Tier: a niche pick in Crystal's meta. It works best as a balanced. High Jump Kick with Nothing is the standard set.

  • In Crystal, watch for Aerodactyl (Flying) and Starmie (Psychic) when using Hitmontop. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • In Crystal, Hitmontop fills the balanced role. It's a physical attacker with base 95 Attack. Base 70 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • In Crystal, run High Jump Kick, Rapid Spin, Detect, and Triplekick on Hitmontop. High Jump Kick is the most common pick at 23% usage. This set covers the balanced role with a mix of damage and utility.

  • For Crystal, Hitmontop has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Flying and Psychic-type attackers hit hardest.

Game Availability

Hitmontop first appeared in Gold & Silver and has been available in 17 games across 9 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
