Stats & Training
The stat bars tell the story: Sp. Atk carries everything and Defense's dead weight. But this Psi Pokemon still yields 3 Sp. Atk stat exp per fight on a 1.06M XP medium-slow curve.
It has an IQ of 5000. It calculates many things in order to gain the edge in every battle.
Alakazam Weakness
Bug, Ghost, and Dark moves hit Alakazam for super-effective damage. Alakazam's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Bug, Ghost, Dark |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Psychic |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
In Crystal, Gengar can KO Alakazam with Explosion (94-111%). Cloyster threatens a KO with Explosion (128-151%). Forretress's Explosion also KOs at 122-144%.

Alakazam Guide
In Crystal, Alakazam works as a support with 500 BST behind it. B-Tier on our list: a solid option in Crystal for the right team. Psychic with Leftovers is the standard set.
Mega Evolution isn't available in Crystal, but Alakazam does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Alakazam hits 600 BST.
Alakazam is a special attacker with base 135 Sp. Atk. Speed tells the real story. Base 120 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the support role.
For Crystal, Alakazam has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Bug, Ghost, and Dark-type attackers hit hardest.
Game Availability
Available since Red & Blue, Alakazam appears in 21 games spanning 10 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Mega form in Generation 7.
