Stats & Training
The stat budget goes to damage. Attack and Sp. Def carry the offense, Defense doesn't even come close. A Flame Pokemon on a medium-fast 1M XP curve, worth 2 Attack EVs per KO.
It stores some of the air it inhales in its internal flame pouch, which heats it to over 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit.
It fluffs out its fur collar to cool down its body temperature, which can reach 1,650 degrees Fahrenheit.
Flareon Weakness
Flareon is weak to Water, Ground, and Rock. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Flash Fire grants an additional Fire immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Flareon's special bulk (base 110 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Water, Ground, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)

Flareon Guide
In HeartGold & SoulSilver, Flash Fire changes the entire equation for Flareon. The 525 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a wallbreaker. Fire Blast with Lum Berry is the standard set.
Flash Fire is what you want on Flareon. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Guts) work on paper but Flash Fire is what makes Flareon worth using. Flash Fire synergizes with Flareon's base 110 Sp.Def, letting it soak special attacks as a pivot.
At base 65 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Flareon is a mixed attacker with base 130 Attack and 95 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a wallbreaker.
For HeartGold & SoulSilver, the core moveset is Fire Blast, Flamethrower, Detect, and Hiddenpowerground. Fire Blast leads at 19% usage. Flamethrower provides reliable STAB damage.
