Stats & Training
The stat budget goes to damage. Attack and Sp. Def carry the offense, Defense doesn't even come close. A Flame Pokemon on a medium-fast 1M XP curve, worth 2 Attack EVs per KO.
FLAREON’s fluffy fur releases heat into the air so that its body does not get excessively hot. Its body temperature can rise to a maximum of 1,650 degrees F.
Flareon Weakness
Flareon is weak to Water, Ground, and Rock. 5 resistances help offset the weaknesses. Flash Fire grants an additional Fire immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Flareon's special bulk (base 110 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Water, Ground, Rock |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Grass, Ice, Bug, Steel |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move

Emerald Evolution
Eevee's line splits into 8 evolutions, and Flareon is the item path. Each sibling form needs a different method to obtain. Breed through Eevee to get eggs. Flareon and Vaporeon share the same 525 total stats, but they're distributed differently. Check the comparison below to see where each one specializes. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.
How to Evolve
Breeding
Breed with Flareon to get Eevee eggs (with patience) using 102 partners from the Ground egg group. Notable egg moves include Charm, Curse, Endure and 3 more.
Emerald Flareon Best Moveset
This is a pure walling set. Leftovers provides passive recovery each turn so Flareon sticks around, and the Sassy nature reinforces slow wall. Wish handles sustain while Flashfire does work passively.

How to Get Flareon in Emerald
Flareon can't be caught in Emerald. Transfer Eevee from Red, Yellow, or Ultra Sun and evolve through the 2-stage line to get it. The step cards below map the full chain.
Flareon Guide
In Emerald, Flash Fire changes the entire equation for Flareon. The 525 BST doesn't tell the full story. Ranked C-Tier as a wallbreaker. Shadow Ball with Leftovers is the standard set.
Flash Fire is what you want on Flareon. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Guts) work on paper but Flash Fire is what makes Flareon worth using. Flash Fire synergizes with Flareon's base 110 Sp.Def, letting it soak special attacks as a pivot.
At base 65 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Flareon is a special attacker with base 95 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a wallbreaker.
For Emerald, the core moveset is Shadow Ball, Overheat, Wish, and Toxic. Shadow Ball leads at 15% usage. Overheat provides reliable STAB damage.
Game Availability
