Stats & Training
You won't find a real weakness in Wishiwashi's stat line. It's well-rounded for the Small Fry Pokemon, and what it does with that depends on moveset and items. Yields 1 HP EV, on a fast 800K XP curve.
On their own, they’re very weak. But when Wishiwashi pool their power together in a school, they become a demon of the sea.
When facing tough opponents, they get into formation. But if they get wounded in battle, they’ll scatter and become solitary again.
Wishiwashi Weakness
Type-wise, Wishiwashi takes extra damage from Electric and Grass. The Water typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Wishiwashi's Water typing only leaves 2 gaps to cover.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice, Steel |

Moves
The egg pool carries weight here. Mist and Take Down aren't available any other way for Wishiwashi, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Hydro Pump and Aqua Tail for solid options.

Wishiwashi Guide
In Sword & Shield, Wishiwashi's biggest threats include Manectric (Electric) and Breloom (Grass), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about. At base 40 Speed, Wishiwashi won't outrun any of these threats so switching to a resist is usually the safer play.
Honestly, in Sword & Shield Wishiwashi is a tough sell at 175 BST. Plenty of stronger Water options exist. Fun pick, not a practical one.
In Sword & Shield, Wishiwashi looks average on paper at 175 BST. But Schooling is why it sees play. Build around that and it pulls its weight. D-Tier on our tier list. Earthquake with Rocky Helmet is the standard set.
Wishiwashi gets Schooling. But Schooling is the one that matters. It's the centerpiece of every viable set. Build around that.
Water gives Wishiwashi 4 resistances. HP is the best stat at base 45. Pure Water type with same-type attack bonus on Water moves.
