Stats & Training
The stat line revolves around HP. Percentage recovery gets extra mileage here. Sp. Atk backs it up, though Defense doesn't pull its weight. Worth 2 HP stat exp on a medium-fast 1M XP curve to max out.
As it uses the fins on the tip of its tail to swim, it blends with the water perfectly.
Vaporeon Weakness
Type-wise, Vaporeon takes extra damage from Electric and Grass. The Water typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Vaporeon's special bulk (base 95 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Electric, Grass |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Ice, Steel |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def
In Crystal, Tyranitar's Rock Slide hits Vaporeon for 39-46%. Golem's Explosion hits Vaporeon for 79-93%. Steelix deals 59-70% with Explosion.

Moves
Most of Vaporeon's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Hydro Pump and Surf, but Normal and Dark and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

Vaporeon Guide
In Crystal, Vaporeon works as a tank with 525 BST behind it. B-Tier on our list: a solid option in Crystal for the right team. Growth with Leftovers is the standard set.
Vaporeon is a special attacker with base 110 Sp. Atk. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. At base 65 Speed, it won't be moving first often. Fits the tank role.
In Crystal, the best way to handle Vaporeon: Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Physical attackers can break through.
In Crystal, Vaporeon plays as a tank. Not the fastest, so pick your spots carefully. Surf is the primary attack. Set up with Growth when you get a free turn.
