Stats & Training

Nothing fancy in Tauros's spread. It leans physical with Speed out front. And you'll get 2 Attack and Speed stat exp per KO for it. Follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.

They fight each other by locking horns. The herd’s protector takes pride in its battle-scarred horns.

Tauros Weakness

Tauros is weak to Fighting. On the flip side, it's immune to Ghost-type moves entirely. Tauros's physical bulk (base 95 Def) helps cushion physical weakness hits, but special attackers are the bigger threat.

Moves

Most of Tauros's flexibility comes from TMs. Same-type output runs through Hyper Beam and Thrash, but Dark and Ice and the rest of the TM pool push it from predictable to genuinely threatening.

Tauros Guide

  • In Gold & Silver, Tauros works as a setup sweeper with 490 BST behind it. C-Tier on our list: a niche pick in Gold & Silver's meta. Earthquake with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In Gold & Silver, Tauros's biggest threats include Machamp (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Tauros is a physical attacker with base 100 Attack. Enough bulk to take a hit or two, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 110 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. Fits the setup sweeper role.

  • For Gold & Silver, the core moveset is Earthquake, Double Edge, Rest, and Sleep Talk. Earthquake leads at 24% usage. This set covers the setup sweeper role with a mix of damage and utility.

  • In Gold & Silver, the best way to handle Tauros: Priority moves (Mach Punch, Aqua Jet, Ice Shard) bypass its speed. Bulky walls that resist its STAB also shut it down.

Game Availability

Available since Red & Blue, Tauros appears in 20 games spanning 10 generations. Beyond its original form, it gained a Paldean form in Generation 9.
