SEALEO has the habit of always juggling on the tip of its nose anything it sees for the first time. This POKéMON occasionally entertains itself by balancing and rolling a SPHEAL on its nose.

Sealeo Weakness

Sealeo is weak to Electric, Grass, Fighting, and Rock. Thick Fat reduces Fire/Ice damage, further improving the defensive spread.

Ruby & Sapphire Evolution

Partway through Spheal's chain. Sealeo still has another evolution ahead before reaching Walrein. For breeding, average hatch time with a massive partner pool via two egg groups. HP has grown the most so far (+20), but there's still another 120 stats to gain in the final evolution. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.

Moves

Egg moves make a real difference. Sealeo gets Curse and Fissure exclusively through breeding, filling gaps that TMs and level-up can't touch. Normal and Ground coverage and more rounds out the picture alongside Blizzard and Ice Beam.

Sealeo Guide

  • Sealeo is meant to evolve into Walrein. At 410 BST, the stats aren't there for competitive play yet. Pre-evolution Pokemon rarely hold up against fully evolved threats.

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Sealeo's biggest threats include Raikou (Electric), Breloom (Grass), and Machamp (Fighting), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Rock-type attackers are also a problem.

  • In Ruby & Sapphire, Spheal evolves into Sealeo at level 32. Sealeo evolves into Walrein at level 44. Sealeo is a middle-stage evolution in the Spheal line.

  • Thick Fat is what you want on Sealeo. Every competitive set worth running is built with that ability in mind. The alternatives (Ice Body, Oblivious) work on paper but Thick Fat is what makes Sealeo worth using.

  • Base 45 Speed is low. Priority moves or Trick Room are the way to go. On offense, Sealeo is a special attacker with base 75 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two.

Game Availability

Available in 15 titles since its debut in Ruby & Sapphire, Sealeo spans 8 generations of Pokemon games. It's accessible through catching or hatching as a base form in most mainline games.
