Stats & Training
Nothing fancy in Moltres's spread. It leans special with Special out front. And you'll get 3 Special stat exp per KO for it. Follows a slow 1.25M XP grind.
A legendary bird POKéMON. As it flaps its flaming wings, even the night sky will turn red.
Moltres Weakness
Type-wise, Moltres takes extra damage from Rock, Water, and Electric. Watch out for Rock attacks, those deal 4x damage. Ground moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. The Fire/Flying typing picks up 4 resistances to work with. Moltres's special bulk (base 125 Special) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 4x (Critical) | Rock |
| 2x (Weak) | Water, Electric |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Fighting |
| 0.25x (Resist) | Grass, Bug |
| 0x (Immune) | Ground |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

Moltres Guide
In Yellow, Moltres is a Legendary Pokemon rated B-Tier. At 620 BST, it hits hard. It excels as a wallbreaker. Fire Blast anchors the moveset.
In Yellow, Moltres's biggest threats include Golem (Rock), Gyarados (Water), and Raikou (Electric), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Golem is the most dangerous since Rock moves deal 4x damage. Moltres has enough bulk to absorb a hit, but don't push the matchup. Pivot to a teammate that resists.
Moltres is a mixed attacker with base 100 Attack and 125 Special. Tanky enough to absorb a few hits, too. Speed tells the real story. Base 90 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. Fits the wallbreaker role.
For Yellow, the core moveset is Fire Blast, Agility, Fire Spin, and Hyper Beam. Fire Blast leads at 25% usage. Agility lets it set up before sweeping.
In Yellow, the best way to handle Moltres: Status moves (Toxic, Will-O-Wisp) wear it down. Setup sweepers can use it as a boost opportunity. Physical attackers can break through.
