Stats & Training
Dratini's stats barely vary. None sit in respectable range with no real gaps. It's a blank slate for EV investment. Worth 1 Attack stat exp, slow 1.25M XP grind to max.
The existence of this mythical POKéMON was only recently confirmed by a fisherman who caught one.
Dratini Weakness
Dratini's Dragon typing leaves it vulnerable to Ice and Dragon. It resists 4 types, giving it decent defensive coverage. Only 2 weaknesses makes it relatively easy to build around defensively.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Ice, Dragon |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fire, Water, Electric, Grass |
- Only 15 types exist — Dark, Steel, and Fairy are absent
- Ghost has no effect on Psychic (a known bug, fixed in Gen II)
- Special stat governs both offense and defense — no Sp.Atk / Sp.Def split

Yellow Evolution
A Dragon type with 300 stats, Dratini has a chain leading to Dragonite. Breeding won't work. The evolved forms gain up to 300 total stats over Dratini. View every chain in the Evolution Chart.

Yellow Dratini Best Moveset
Best Build
Gen 1 build content has limited support (no abilities, held items, or natures).
Try selecting a different game/generation filter, or check back later.
Moves
Without TMs, Dratini's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get Normal and Ice coverage and more on top of Dragon Rage for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Yellow Dratini Locations
Dratini is available from early-game fishing spots onward at decent spawn rates. 4 encounter spots give you plenty of options. Grab one early and it'll be ready to evolve or train by mid-game.
Best Locations to Catch Dratini in Yellow
Catching Dratini here means fishing. All 4 encounters require Super Rod at Lv. 10-15, and there aren't any overworld spawns in this game.
Dratini Guide
Level 30 gets you Dragonair. Not the fastest evolution, so consider Exp. Share or route grinding to speed it up.
In Yellow, Dratini does the job early-game if you need a Dragon type on your team. Evolve it into Dragonair before the later gyms and it holds up fine through the story.
You can find Dratini in Yellow. The Locations section has the full breakdown of routes and encounter details. It also appears in 20 other games across the series.
Game Availability
