It has a docile temperament and dislikes fighting. Tucking in its forelegs, it can fly faster than a jet plane.

Latios Weakness

Ice, Bug, Ghost, Dragon, and Dark moves hit Latios for super-effective damage. 6 resistances give it solid defensive coverage on top of that. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. Latios's special bulk (base 110 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.

Without TMs, Latios's movepool is bare bones. With them, you get coverage across 9 types on top of Dream Eater and Luster Purge for STAB. The natural kit handles basics, but TMs are doing the real work.

Latios Guide

  • For the FireRed & LeafGreen meta, At 600 BST, Latios is built different. We rank it A-Tier. As a Legendary Pokemon, the raw stats back up the reputation. Best used as a sweeper.

  • Mega Evolution isn't available in FireRed & LeafGreen, but Latios does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Latios hits 700 BST.

  • In FireRed & LeafGreen, watch for Lapras (Ice), Heracross (Bug), and Misdreavus (Ghost) when using Latios. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Dragon and Dark-type attackers are also a problem. With 5 weakness types, most competitive teams carry at least one counter.

  • In FireRed & LeafGreen, Run Levitate on Latios. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. With base 110 Speed, Levitate gives Latios an edge before opponents can react.

  • In FireRed & LeafGreen, Latios fills the sweeper role. It's a special attacker with base 130 Sp. Atk. Base 110 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

Game Availability

Latios has appeared in 16 games since Ruby & Sapphire, spanning 8 generations. As a Legendary, it's typically a one-per-save encounter tied to the story or post-game content.
