Stats & Training
Raw HP carries Kangaskhan's bulk more than the defenses do. Sp. Atk barely registers. But that HP pool covers for it. A tough to catch Parent Pokemon that yields 2 HP stat exp on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.
To avoid crushing the baby it carries in its pouch, it always sleeps standing up.
Kangaskhan Weakness
Kangaskhan's Normal typing leaves it vulnerable to Fighting. It shrugs off Ghost-type attacks completely. With 105 HP and balanced defenses, Kangaskhan can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Fighting |
| 0x (Immune) | Ghost |
- Dark and Steel types added — Fairy does not exist yet
- Moves are Physical or Special based on type, not per move
- Special stat split into Sp.Atk and Sp.Def

STAB runs through Hyper Beam and Mega Punch for the basics, but Kangaskhan's real strength is the 10-type coverage spread. Dark and Fighting hit common defensive types, and the movepool keeps going.

Kangaskhan Guide
For Crystal, we rate Kangaskhan C-Tier: a niche pick in Crystal's meta. At 490 BST, the stats are spread pretty evenly. Earthquake with Leftovers is the standard set.
Mega Evolution isn't available in Crystal, but Kangaskhan does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Kangaskhan hits 590 BST.
In Crystal, watch for Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Kangaskhan. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.
Base 90 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Kangaskhan is a physical attacker with base 95 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two.
For Crystal, Kangaskhan has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Fighting-type attackers hit hardest.
Game Availability
Since debuting in Red & Blue, Kangaskhan has appeared in 20 titles over 10 generations. Along the way, it received a Mega form in Generation 7, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
