Raw HP carries Kangaskhan's bulk more than the defenses do. Sp. Atk barely registers. But that HP pool covers for it. A tough to catch Parent Pokemon that yields 2 HP EVs on a medium-fast 1M XP curve.

Kangaskhan Weakness

Kangaskhan's Normal typing leaves it vulnerable to Fighting. It shrugs off Ghost-type attacks completely. With 105 HP and balanced defenses, Kangaskhan can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.

FireRed & LeafGreen Kangaskhan Best Moveset

Kangaskhan doesn't rely on pure speed. Leftovers gives it passive recovery each turn to stay healthy, and Jolly nature still pushes offense. Shadow Ball and the remaining moves keep the pressure on while max Attack and Speed EVs balance power and survivability.

STAB runs through Hyper Beam and Double-Edge for the basics, but Kangaskhan's real strength is the 12-type coverage spread. Dark and Fighting hit common defensive types, and the movepool keeps going.

Kangaskhan Guide

  • For FireRed & LeafGreen, we rate Kangaskhan C-Tier: a niche pick in FireRed & LeafGreen's meta. At 490 BST, the stats are spread pretty evenly. Shadow Ball with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • Mega Evolution isn't available in FireRed & LeafGreen, but Kangaskhan does have a Mega form in Gen 6-7 games (X/Y, ORAS, Sun/Moon). Mega Kangaskhan hits 590 BST.

  • In FireRed & LeafGreen, watch for Hitmonlee (Fighting) when using Kangaskhan. They all hit it super-effectively with STAB. Only 1 weakness means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • Early Bird makes sleep pass twice as quickly. That's the one you want on Kangaskhan. Inner Focus is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Scrappy works too if your team needs something different.

  • Base 90 Speed is workable. Faster than some, slower than many. On offense, Kangaskhan is a physical attacker with base 95 Attack. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two.

Game Availability

Since debuting in Red & Blue, Kangaskhan has appeared in 20 titles over 10 generations. Along the way, it received a Mega form in Generation 7, keeping it relevant across different competitive metas.
