Stats & Training
Bulk defines Hypno's stat line. Sp. Def and HP anchor the defensive side, but Speed can't keep up offensively. Moderately hard to find and worth 2 Sp. Def EVs.
Seeing its swinging pendulum can induce sleep in three seconds, even in someone who just woke up.
Hypno Weakness
Bug, Ghost, and Dark moves hit Hypno for super-effective damage. Hypno's special bulk (base 115 Sp.Def) helps absorb special-type weaknesses, though physical moves exploit the lower Defense.
| Damage | Types |
|---|---|
| 2x (Weak) | Bug, Ghost, Dark |
| 0.5x (Resist) | Fighting, Psychic |
- Fairy type does not exist — Dragon has fewer checks
- Physical / Special split now per-move (introduced Gen IV)
In Platinum, Gengar's Shadow Ball hits Hypno for 81-96%. Forretress's Explosion hits Hypno for 40-47%.

Hypno Guide
For Platinum, we rate Hypno C-Tier: a niche pick in Platinum's meta. At 483 BST, it fits the support role. Psychic with Leftovers is the standard set.
Insomnia prevents sleep. That's the one you want on Hypno. Inner Focus is the hidden ability. Niche, but it has its uses. Forewarn works too if your team needs something different.
At base 67 Speed, it won't be moving first often. On offense, Hypno is a special attacker with base 73 Sp. Atk. Defensively? Enough bulk to take a hit or two. Best used as a support.
For Platinum, Hypno has answers, but so do you. Super-effective STAB from faster Pokemon is the simplest answer. Bug, Ghost, and Dark-type attackers hit hardest.
