The flapping of its wings sounds like singing. To prevent detection by enemies, it hides itself by flapping up a cloud of desert sand.

Emerald

Flygon Weakness

Type-wise, Flygon takes extra damage from Ice and Dragon. Watch out for Ice attacks, those deal 4x damage. Electric moves do nothing thanks to a full immunity. Levitate grants an additional Ground immunity, reshaping the matchup chart. With 80 HP and balanced defenses, Flygon can afford to eat a neutral hit or two.

Emerald Flygon Best Moveset

Nothing fancy here. Flygon builds around Leftovers for passive recovery each turn, Impish nature for the right stat lean, and max HP and Defense EVs. Levitate does its job quietly.

Moves

The egg pool carries weight here. Focus Energy and Gust aren't available any other way for Flygon, and they meaningfully change what it threatens. Stack those on top of Earthquake and Dig for solid options.

Flygon Guide

  • In Emerald, Don't let Flygon's 520 base stat total fool you. Levitate is what makes it tick. It punches way above its weight class. We rate it B-Tier as a sweeper. Earthquake with Leftovers is the standard set.

  • In Emerald, Flygon's biggest threats include Lapras (Ice) and Dragonite (Dragon), all carrying super-effective STAB moves. Lapras is the most dangerous since Ice moves deal 4x damage. Only 2 weaknesses means fewer dedicated counters to worry about.

  • In Emerald, Run Levitate on Flygon. It's the ability that defines how you build around it and the main reason it holds a competitive niche. With base 100 Speed, Levitate gives Flygon an edge before opponents can react.

  • In Emerald, Flygon fills the sweeper role. It's a mixed attacker with base 100 Attack and 80 Sp. Atk. Base 100 Speed lets it outrun most of the field. And it's enough bulk to take a hit or two.

  • For Emerald, the core moveset is Earthquake, Rock Slide, Toxic, and Protect. Earthquake leads at 25% usage. Earthquake provides reliable STAB damage.

Game Availability

Flygon first appeared in Ruby & Sapphire and has been available in 15 games across 8 generations. Obtainable through wild encounters in most titles where it appears.
